Days of Summer
Today was one of those totally forgetable days. Came home from work and since the temperature outside has spiked up again we decided to forgo the post-dinner family walk. So we were stuck inside, and Megan decided to have a total meltdown while working on her spelling homework of learning new words. We ended up putting her to bed early and then Ian and I watched a good chunk of the original Star Wars movie together. Melissa had to put new batteries in his blue lightsaber once Luke was flailing his around onscreen so he could terrorize the living room and his father with it.
My copy of the Deus Ex sequel showed up today a day late, so Amazon threw a $10 credit my way. Played the intro and a good portion of the first mission and the game definitely captures the tone and vibe of the original. It'll be a nice break from my LOTRO addiction.
Haven't read much lately. Picked up the latest Dresden book by Jim Butcher after reading A Dance with Dragons in July. But other than those two books, it's been a slow summer. Half-tempted to send my Potter books back to Amazon for a return credit to spend on something else.
Let myself get sucked into a collectible card game by Fantasy Flight based on A Song of Ice and Fire. Finished up organizing them into 3-ring binders on plastic pocket pages (70 of them, all double-sided). Frank and I have played a few times, definitely a fun game and a bit more affordable since it uses a fixed card distribution. Nevertheless, I've still managed to spend close to $500 on it since May (including the binders and card pages) and FFG releases a new $10 chapter pack of 20 cards each month. The costs of being a nerd are too high at times.
Got my sister's laptop rebuilt and virus-free. Handed it off to her yesterday night, and naturally Ian had to carry it out to her and claim total credit for the work. All part of his little helper personality, which can admittedly be really cute at times. I wish I could somehow keep Megan and Ian young past their natural spans, but time is the greatest thief this world has ever known and there's no way of keeping it locked out of our lives.
